our history & values

Beginning in 1952, the Dunning family – owners of Severnside Safety Supplies – put down their roots in the safety industry.  Initially establishing strong connections within the hearing protection field, over time they amassed a broad scope of knowledge and expertise in personal protective equipment (PPE).  In 1973, Severnside Safety Supplies Limited was formed by directors and brothers, Clive and Malcolm Dunning.

Several generations have since brought new and forward-thinking ideas to the business; expanding its product range and customer base. 50years later, we continue to supply both local and national customers alike, while never loosing sight of what makes us unique – as an independent safety supplier, we take pride in remaining big enough to trust, but small enough to care.  Quality products.  Personal service.

We work closely with the manufacturers of all of our brands and believe in distributing only trusted, quality items no matter the price-point.  From footwear to custom safety signs, Arc Flash workwear to linchpins for machinery, our extensive catalogue is carefully selected with customer needs in mind.  We welcome you to explore our full catalogue.  In addition to promoting our core products, we will always be pleased to help in sourcing any specific items using our network of contacts.

To compliment purchases, Severnside also offers a number of additional services, including quality logo branding for workwear, Face Fit Testing for face masks and a new PPE Recycling And Laundry Service for organisations which strive to improve their environmental footprint while reducing their PPE purchasing costs.

In line with our values, we are a member of the British Safety Industry Federation (BSIF) and demonstrate a British Standards Institute (BSI) Quality Management System.  This means we are regularly audited to ensure procedures are in place, and our products are sold safely by conforming to all relevant international, European and British standards.  View our qualifications.

Both our offices and trade counter in Cheltenham, Gloucestershire are open Monday to Thursday 8am to 5pm and Fridays 8am to 2.30pm.  Individual purchases are welcome, as well as the opportunity to open a Trade Account with us for invoice payments and discount opportunities.
